Monday Music

Hot damn, I’m tired.  Burning the candle at both ends with friends who are on Pacific time = I Can Haz Exhaustion.  But damn did we have a lot of fun.  We ate ridiculously well.  And I ended the weekend with two more bottles of (excellent) bourbon than I started it with…only one of which I paid for.  Woo hoo!

Now?  A soggy Monday morning.  Back to the grind.

So, how about a little subtle beauty?  Looking back over my entries I see that I’ve still never posted anything by one of my mostest favoritest guitarists ever.

If I could wake up with anyone else’s ability, it would be Eric Johnson’s.  I think many people have heard his signature hit “Cliffs of Dover” before, and not a few have heard “Trademark,” another favorite, so I’ll go with a more obscure one.   This is off of Venus Isle, the follow-up to that album, Ah Via Musicom.  It only took six years to complete, you know.  And it contains probably my favorite guitar solo on Earth.  (Edging out “Angel Eyes” by Jeff Healey.)

Eric Johnson, “Lonely in the Night”

And if you want to actually see the man at work, I recommend this intro to one of his instructional videos.  Man.

Happy Monday, y’all.

  1. I loooove Jeff Healey. I can’t believe he’s been gone a year already. Still makes me sad.

    Me too. 😦

  2. Good friends, good food, smooth booze and awesome music…hard combo to top! Glad y’all had a great weekend.

    Yep, more details to come!
