Happy Birfday!

No, not me.  The blog!

One year ago today, I posted my first blog at this here address.

Today, 372(!  Damn, I’m a blabbermouth) posts and a bit over 1000 comments later, I’m feeling more than a little bit of (probably unjustified) pride.  I like what I’ve got goin’ over here, ya know?  A lot.

And a whole lot of that is due to a bunch of people who I’ve somehow managed to get to know over the past year.  That means you.   I couldn’t possibly list all of ya without doing somebody a disservice, but if you look in my blogroll you’ll see some of the people I’m talkin’ about here.

I’ve been doing this here interwebby thing for about ten or fifteen years now, and I can honestly say that I think my crew of readers here is the best damned group of people I’ve ever associated with.  Y’all are smart, funny, thoughtful and thought-provoking, and just downright good human bein’s.  I’m lucky to have known ya.

That said, I wanted to tip the hat to a few folks.

I would be remiss in neglecting to mention Vix, who during an email exchange based on a few of her blogs said as an afterthought: “You write better than most of the male bloggers I’ve come across. Have you thought about starting a blog? Please, we need more articulate and thoughtful guys out here in the blogosphere.”  And that was just enough for me to go, “Hmm…yeah!  A blog!  Maybe I should…”

Some who were here almost from the get-go, Sue and Becca the Chaotic Kitten, who followed me over from Vix’s comments section.

A few others from Vix’s comments who were there almost from the beginning, but whose blogs have sadly gone idle or just plain bye-bye…  Late Bloomer, Ash, and Foxxypiratestar.

One who was there from the beginning, my bud Rogue.

But of course my greatest thanks need to go to my lovely wife, Dyskinesia, who has not only graciously provided me with time, understanding, and support for this little alter-ego of mine, but some of my best blog fodder as well.  You’re the best, babe.

So, what next?  I’ve been inspired by various things recently, and I’ve got some new ideas and some new projects in the works that will hopefully be of interest to all of you – some biker stuff, some relationship stuff, some stuff that’s a bit more personal than my typical post.  But don’t worry, I’m sure that in between there will be a whole lot more of the snarky observations on life that have seemed to be my stock in trade, here.

Anyway, I just wanted to celebrate the moment for a bit.  So here’s a little song I like that I think describes in a strange way how I feel about this whole blogging gig.  Hope you enjoy it, and thanks to all of ya.

Junkyard, “Simple Man”

(And yes, it’s a sheer coincidence that I once resembled that blonde guitar player before I cut my hair off.)

  2. Happy birthday! I am just starting to read your blog, but am finding it interesting and thought provoking. Keep up the good work! 🙂

Thanks, and likewise I’m just starting to read your blog as well. Best of luck to you in the coming months.

  3. Happy birthday! I haven’t been there from the beginning but I sure as hell have enjoyed catching and keeping up with you! It’s always a highlight of my day.

Keep up the great work, TB!

    Chris

Highlight of your day? Now I’m just positively overcome with aw-shucksness. 😀

  4. Huzzah!

I know, that’s Mainiac for “Hell yeah!”, right? 😉

  5. Hey! Happy Bloggy Birthday! Way to go! I’m going to have to go check out some of your blogroll blogs. I think I found you through my friend Crazedreamer. I think that’s how I found you.

Thanks! I think Sue was a mutual blogger friend, as well.

  6. Happy Blogday!!

I think I wore out my first copy of Junkyard’s Sixes, Seven’s & Nines (it was a cassette). Still a favorite.

Thanks! About 8-9 years ago I found a copy of the original Junkyard self-titled album on CD in the bargain bin for $4. Yup, still got it. Pretty good album, honestly.

  7. Yay! Happy Blog Birthday!

It’s good to have you around.

Why thankya! Dys says that too, about once a month or so. 😀

  8. Happy Birfday! Maybe we’ll read about a new bike…or growing your hair back in the next year!

HAH! I wonder which of those is more likely?

In the long term, I think the new bike is more likely, but in the coming year it’s probably more like trying to figure out if I’m more likely to be hit by lightning or stung to death by killer bees.

  9. You do have a good blog thing going here. I always look forward to reading your humorous and wickedly insightful posts. Carry on!

    Aye, cap’n!

Thanks for the kind words; I take “wickedly insightful” as a high compliment!

  10. I saw this yesterday, and for some reason, it totally slipped my mind. Anyway, happy blogaversary. Out of all the people that comment on Vix’s blog (yes, I check out most of them) you were one of the few whose point of view I actually could tolerate. I’m glad I’ve gotten to know you. You’ve been a good friend to me. I know I don’t say that enough, but it’s true.

Hey, thanks and likewise! Glad to have made your acquaintance as well. It’s been a pleasure!

  11. Congrats! I just had my one year blogaversay too, so I know that it really does take dedication. Of course, my numbers are nothing like yours… but it just gives me inspiration to put more energy into my site.

May you have many more years of inspired and fulfilling blogging!

If you’d told me a year ago that my numbers would look like this, I would have laughed at you.

Thanks for the kind words, and good luck yourself!

  12. Yep. I have the self-titled Junkyard too, but the second one is still my favorite. 😉

Yeah? Never heard more than a song or two from it. I’d liked Junkyard’s stuff when the self-titled came out, but I didn’t own a copy of it until I found that CD.
