Norick Abe (1975-2007)

I just today learned of the passing of motorcycle racer Norick “Norifumi” Abe, age 32, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in Kawasaki City, Japan.  I was never an Abe fan but he was a capable rider, notching 17 podium finishes (including three wins) in the GP500 and MotoGP classes in addition to numerous years competing in the World Superbike series.

This guy finished sixth in the most brutal motorcycle racing series on Earth just five years ago. And this weekend a truck pulling an illegal U-turn in traffic took him out.

Ride safe, my two-wheeled friends.  It only takes an instant, even for the best of us.
