Radio Show Tonight!

Yep, it’s finally about that time.

Tonight’s the night, peoples! And after last night, I’m definitely gonna be chugging the Coke to hopefully minimize my yawning. ‘Cuz that would suck.

If you’re like me and generally not doing anything much on a Wednesday night at 11pm Eastern time, click on the big-ass button above or click this link to stop by and listen in! At 11pm, a “Listen Live” button will appear on my profile page there and you can click that to launch Windows Media Player and stream the show live.

Or, for the adventurous, you can call in and talk to me on the air. The call-in number is:

(646) 915-8720

(Get the hint?)

When 11 rolls around, the chick with the snooty British accent will say “BlogTalkRadio!”, my intro music will play (until I abruptly rip the needle from the vinyl), and then yours truly will be drawlin’ on the airwaves. I’ll try to remember to turn up the headset volume, since I was a little quiet when Dys and I tested on Monday. Hopefully you guys won’t think I’m some crazy heavy breather because I have the headset mic kinda close.

As a side note, the show is scheduled for 30 minutes. That means that, as I understand it, when 11:30 rolls around, the “Listen Live” button goes away and nobody else can click to listen, and nobody else can call in. However, anybody already on the phone or anybody already listening in will be able to continue doing so. In other words, if we’re having fun, the show can run long.

As of this moment I haven’t the foggiest idea what the hell I’m going to be talking about, I’m just gonna wing it. Anybody that calls in gets the chance to help determine the direction of the conversation, so let that be a mini-bribe.

Hope some of y’all can join me! If you can’t, well, after tonight you can listen to the recorded segment in the archive and wish you were there. (Yeah, right.)

Edit:  I should also suggest that if there are any problems, check here.  I once had a significant problem getting through on the phone lines to my own show, and I didn’t start until 10 minutes late.  If anything like that happens, I’ll post up here.

  1. Good luck! Have fun! Hope I can get back in time to give a listen.

    Thanks on all three counts!

  2. I will put you in my calendar and check it out. If you are dying, I’ll try to help you out. I’ll root around your blog and see if we have anything in common or stories I can pull out of you.

Heh, if I’m dying I’ll make up a story about the dog puking and end the show early.

    Oops, I blew my cover.

  3. I have NO ideas on topic suggestions! I know I promised to give you some, but I’m drawing a blank. Maybe… your most embarrassing moment? The song that always reminds you of fifth grade? Heavier stuff like your marriage and your son and whatnot? And of COURSE, how much you’re dying to have a motorcycle, and what you do to get around the “craving”. What you’d ride if you could buy anything, your favorite street bike racer…

    Hmm… maybe I did have a few ideas…

Hah! Well, we’ll see where we go.

  4. Oh, and hey! Will Dys be making a cameo “appearance”?

As of T-minus ten minutes, she’s not sure herself!

  5. GOOD LUCK!! This is sooo exciting!!

Uh, hope you still think so afterwards!

  6. hmmmm…so I clicked and everything at about 11:10…after I clicked the listen-link though, I couldn’t hear anything….maybe I’ll try out your recorded version once it’s loaded, but I hope you had fun! ….how did it go?

Hmm. Maybe the volume level was just way too low, as Morethananelectrician suggests. I recognized that as a potential problem during our test run on Monday – Dyskinesia was much louder calling from her cell phone than I was on the house phone. I thought maybe adjusting the headset would help out, but apparently not. Maybe next time I’ll have to call in from my cell.

  7. I laid down around 7, not intending to fall asleep, but when I woke up, it was 10:45 my time. I totally missed it. I’m sorry, I really did want to hear it. And I’ve been drifting in and out of consciousness since.

Bah, you can now listen to the archived segment anytime. Sleep won’t always wait!

  8. It seemed to only work in Windows Media Player. If it wasn’t the default player, then you had to open it in there. I caught the whole thing, but went to the batrhoom during the song…did you do that too? All that Soda!

I loved the stories and you seemed pretty smooth throughout the broadcast…very few pauses and almost no “uhhhhs”. I think I only remember one.

BTW, the sound levels were very low.

Actually, no, I stayed right there at the desk. Although that’s a good idea for future broadcasts!

Glad to hear somebody thought I sounded like an intelligent human being. As for the sound levels, you’re right – see my reply to Romi above.

  9. Crap! I missed out! Went for a beer with friends last night, and that turned into a few beers…

Do the words “tequila shots” come anywhere after the ellipsis? ;)

  10. Gosh-freaking-darnit. I fell asleep on the stupid couch at 8:40 p.m. I blame the mind-numbingly boring training I attended yesterday. Is there a recording of the session somewhere out there in cyberspace?

Yeppers. I’m about to start working on my follow-up blog, and I’ll post up the link.

Don’t feel bad, I’ve definitely done that one myself a time or two! This time I knew it was coming so I amped up on caffeine all evening. Which I’ll probably pay for as I wean myself back off of Coca-Cola.

  11. Aww, you DO have an accent! It’s muy sessy.

I would have called in, but hello, SHY. Rilly. Plus, my voice would have been recorded for internet posterity which would have been BAD. I hate my voice.

The sound was a bit low during the live version, but was just fine in the recorded version. Weird.

(Also, GEEK! I got a shout out! I am now off to research the eggbeater in the hair incident, since I seem to have missed that one somehow.)

I hate my voice, too. I think I sound like Elvis with laryngitis. And honestly one of the reasons I started doing the radio show was to throw myself out there and get over my own damned shyness. It only partially worked, but I think I do a good job faking it as long as it’s not in person.

The egg beater story is here, by the way. And I never have gone and found that picture yet….

  12. Also, my fifth grade soundtrack includes WHAM! and Cyndi Lauper.

If my memory and my math are correct, your fifth grade year would have been the same as my sixth grade year. So I suppose I could say the same…but mostly what I remember is “Roxanne Roxanne” and my mother being pissed off that I only told them the cassette contained the word “shit” AFTER we were on our way home from the mall.
